[INTERNAL MEMO]

How often do you hand someone a task or project, they say they’ve “Got it” only to find out two weeks later they completely forgot about it?

You give them another chance.

And another.

Somewhere along the way you start doing the work for them which you realize one day when you wake up and realize half your job is supposed to be theirs.

That used to be my life a decade ago.

In my first business I took over a team where there was a lot of activity, but no results.

There was essentially no accountability (the glue between action & result)

So I started huddles three times a week.

PRO TIP: Fast comm cycles = Fast results

Everybody reported on their performance and had to self-identify as a red, yellow, or green.

The business grew 15% the next month.

People tell me they ‘feel bad’ holding their team accountable.

“I feel like I’m micromanaging”

“They will hate this”

“It seems like a lot“

My counter is, do you feel bad employing them?

Because if you don’t hold people accountable, you won’t be able to for long.

You can start small, start with two or three things they report on every week and see what happens.

I go way deeper into this with Alex, where we answer more questions about hiring, firing, and some unhinged stuff

but I promise it's mostly business…
